Malta–Sicily Interconnector project well underway

Following the official award of the €20 million Malta–Sicily Interconnector project, AG Group immediately mobilised its teams. Progress is well underway, with strict adherence to milestones and timelines already being met.

This project plays a vital role in strengthening regional energy transmission and grid reliability, ensuring long-term energy stability between Malta and Sicily.

Our engineering scope includes:

  • Installation of shunt reactors in Magħtab (Malta) and Ragusa (Sicily) to manage reactive power and boost transmission efficiency
  • Deployment of a 220kV/132kV transformer in Magħtab to step down voltage levels and seamlessly integrate the interconnector with Malta’s distribution grid

This contract further reinforces AG Group’s position as a trusted provider of high-voltage engineering solutions for vital energy infrastructure.
